Johannesburg, South Africa

Featured Post Image - Johannesburg, South Africa

Our trip begins with a 15 hour flight to Johannesburg.  Then we checked into a Marriott in the glamorous part of the city, Melrose Arch.  High class!

Lesedi Village

Our first excursion was a short drive outside Johannesburg.  Lesedi village is a tourist-y type experience where we learned about the 5 indigenous tribes, how they lived, and even the language with the clicking/clucking (I found fascinating).  It was also a place to buy souvenirs.

Lion Cub Encounter

So cute and playful, yet causes bruising, punctures, and torn shirts!
LION ATTACKS!

Cheetah Walk

Cheetah is the only large cat that purrs, and this one was purring until you try to leave the group, then it growled. You have to stay together or it views a stray person as an intruder.  Here kitty kitty kitty!

Moyo Restaurant

After Lesedi and the petting zoo, our first dinner together was at a swanky restaurant in Melrose Arch. Here is the Moyo Restaurant in Melrose Arch.

So that is the end of THE FIRST DAY.  I kid you not, all of this is in one day. I loved this vacation, it was jammed-packed with adventure and excitement the entire time. Thank you Tovah for making all arrangements, I didn’t have to plan a thing!  For the entire trip, we just showed up and got in the van. Off to the next days adventure…

Cape Town Drought

The next day (3/18/18) we hopped on a flight from Johannesburg to Cape Town who was facing the worst drought in 125 years.  All public sinks had the water shut off, and bathroom attendants handed out hand sanitizer.   Hotel showers had timers (for 90 second showers) and buckets to capture unused shower water. We tried diligently to use as little water as possible.  Thanks to Gregor for having the forethought to bring baby wipes, they were handy!
